Gulf Coast Housing Partnership selected Studio West to design, procure and install furnishings and artwork for their multi-family apartment complex on Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard in New Orleans. The project’s location holds significant meaning as H3C derives its mission from the corridor’s longstanding principles of culture, commerce, and community. Inspired by these principles, the team selected vibrant yet resilient furniture to the shared amenity spaces, outdoor courtyards and leasing office that encourage people to connect socially. The three-building complex with 192 units, 92 which are reserved for residents eligible for Medicaid aged 55 or older, is located in the former Brown’s Dairy parking lot. Working with local artists, the design team was able to select artwork that reflected the client’s mission while connecting residents to the history of the Brown’s Dairy site, the historically African American retail corridor and its champion Oretha Castle Haley. Historic photos, colorful sculptures, and local artworks add vibrancy and a sense of home to this locally rooted, large complex.
