Adaptable environments for future building professionals
Richardson Memorial Hall, one of the original buildings on Tulane University’s campus and home to the School of Architecture since 1968, underwent a 4-year renovation to accommodate the expansion and modernization of the school’s programs. Studio West worked with Tulane University to design and select furniture for shared classrooms, collaborative spaces, lecture halls, design studios and faculty and administrative offices. Through minimalist furniture design with highly adaptable features, like flip tops, nesting legs, adjustable feet and casters, the design team was able to deliver highly function pieces for an ever-changing creative environment. Besides needing highly collaborative and adaptable furniture that can accommodate multiple configurations, all furnishings were to aid in the project’s LEED Silver certification goals by meeting strict air quality standards. The design team selected modern design aesthetics to quietly juxtapose the impressive historic structural details of the 1908 historic building and its new addition.
